  • Lovely Gullah cemetery owned by the nearby Brick Baptist Church, and not far from Penn Center. Contains the grave of beloved American author Pat Conroy, who wrote The Great Santini, The Water is Wide, The Prince of Tides, and many more. Pat's grave is to the right as you drive in the gate...can't miss the marker that is slightly larger than most of the other markers...but still in concert with the tone of this lovely cemetery. This is where Pat wanted to be buried, the church consented, and his widow Cassandra King followed his wishes.

  • Here's a small peaceful Gullah graveyard where Pat Conroy lays. “My wound is geography. It is also my anchorage, my port of call.” He is a “ beloved American writer” and on the stone is his signature, which he signed so often for so many strangers in so many long lines, in many towns. Beneath that is: “The Prince of Tides.” On the top of his head stone are special offerings from his fans. Shells, coins, and pine cones that are around his plot. It's the one of the first grave's as you turn in.
